GOWANDA — Dan Harrington age 84 of Gowanda passed away Wednesday, January 26, 2022, at the Bertrand Chaffee Hospital in Springville surrounded by family.
Born at the former Townsend Hospital on Chestnut St. in Gowanda August 8, 1937, the son of Paul D. Sr. and Elvia (Schwartz) Harrington. Dan married the former Martha “Pat” Carlson at the St. Peter an Paul RC Church in Jamestown on June 15, 1957. A New York State Trooper, Dan retired as an investigator with the B. C. I. ( Bureau of Criminal Investigation) unit where he was a Sgt. Dan worked throughout NYS and in many of the State Police Barracks. After his retirement from NYS he owned and operated Sarge Fishing Charter, his fishing excursions took him out into both Lake Erie and Lake Ontario. Civically, Dan was a town justice; he was elected to the position in the Town of Persia. An avid outdoorsman, Dan’s memberships included the Perrysburg Conservation Club and the Slovenian Club in Gowanda he also was a former member of the Retired State Troopers Association. Surviving besides his wife Martha “Pat” of nearly 65 years are their children, Daniel J. (Midge) Harrington of Hamburg and Kyle (James) Steever of Gowanda. Dan is also survived by grandchildren: Meghan (D.J. Dodd), Molly ( Josh) , Daniel G., Emma (Matthew) Glasgow and Zachary (Zoe Seznec-Sweetland). Dan also had a great-granddaughter, Anna Glasgow, along with a brother, Thomas (Dianne) Harringon of Marshville, N.C., two sisters, Margaret (Maurice) Marcoux of Gowanda and Alice (Jay) Bowers also of Gowanda. Several nieces and nephews survive as does his four-legged canine companion Frosty. There will be no prior visitation. The family will have a private burial in the Versailles Cemetery. Memorials, if desired, may be made to the Gowanda Free Library 56 West Main St., Gowanda, NY 14070. Arrangements are by the SCHINDLER FUNERAL HOME 44 Center St. Gowanda.
