BLOSSVALE – Harry Laverne Dence, 92, died Monday, February 7, 2022, peacefully at home.Born in Syracuse, on February 2, 1930, he was the son of Loren and Ethel Place Dence.After attending High School in Syracuse, Harry enlisted in the United States Air Force. After serving during the Korean War he was honorably discharged as a Staff Sergeant. On July 28, 1959, he married Lolia Mae Weston. Mrs. Dence passed away in 2000.Prior to his retirement Harry was employed as a Heavy Military Electronics Technician with General Electric in Syracuse. He also came out of retirement and worked for Lincoln Labs, MIT.Through the years Harry was active with the Boys Scouts, American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. He enjoyed anything outdoors, in his workshop or with his grandchildren.During his later years Harry was grateful to live with and be cared for by his son, Jim, and granddaughter Katie. The family is also grateful to his many caretakers and the medical care he received from the Veteran’s Administration Staff.In addition to his wife, Harry was predeceased by his brothers, Harold and Fred, and his sister, Dorothy.His is survived by his four children, Lena Presley (Ron) of Oneida, NY, Edward Dence (Pam) of Oneida, NY, Kenneth Dence (Cherie) of Hernando Beach, FL, and James Dence of Blossvale, NY; eight grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.Harry was a member of the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Clay, NY.Funeral services will be held 12 Noon, Wednesday (2/16) from the Campbell-Dean Funeral Home, Inc., 260 Main Street, Oneida, with the Reverend Katie Yahns, officiating. Interment, with military honors, will be made in Pine Plains Cemetery, Town of Clay. Friends may call at the funeral home, 11 AM-12 Noon, prior to the service.Memorial donations may be made to the Sylvan Beach Post # 1153 of the American Legion.To offer a word of condolence, please visit www.campbell-dean.com .
